Year 6 - Digestive System
Back to Latest News
You have probably already heard about your child's learning in Science this week! We had so much fun making our own models of the human digestive system, even if it was a bit stomach churning. Using a sandwich bag to represent the stomach, and a pair of tights to represent the intestines, children moved food through the organs; ending up with 'poo' at the end - yuck! Ask your child to explain how the body gets all the nutrients it needs from what we eat.
We also enjoyed continuing reading our new class book - Holes - this week, and found out about Stanley's Dad (the inventor). We looked at some of his wacky inventions, and challenged the children to write persuasive adverts to try to sell some of the products. They had to use different persuasive devices such as rhetorical questions, exaggeration, and the rule of three.
In Maths we continued practising the bus stop method to divide 3 digit numbers by 2 digit numbers. We have given parents and carers who came along to our Year 6 expectation meeting a handy guide to helping with this at home!
