Year 5- Super Science
Back to Latest NewsYear 5 have enjoyed being Super Scientists this week. So far this term, they have been learning about Forces as part of their Phenomenal Physics learning. This week, they carried out an experiment to investigate how the different shapes of objects will affect their water resistance.
To carry out the investigation, Year 5 had to utilise their team-work skills. They created different shapes out of modelling-clay and dropped them into a large container filled with water. Then, they timed how long it took each shape to sink to the bottom of the container, and were able to come up with the conclusion that objects with less surface area will sink to the bottom the quickest.
At home, ask your child what ‘water resistance’ is and how it may impact different objects.
