Year 6 - 'Eternity' RE Day

This week in Year 6 we had an RE Day - focusing on Salvation in Christianity. We talked about 'Eternity' and the Christian perspective on this idea. Children started by discussing the question 'Is anything ever Eternal?', sorting photographs into yes and no piles. This led to some mature and sensible discussions about our own life experiences and beliefs. 

Children also led their learning in Science this week, choosing to research a particular dinosaur as part of our Evolution learning. They created top trumps cards and fact files with excellent illustrations and information. 

In Literacy we continued learning about the tragedy of RMS Titanic, and children wrote newspaper reports for the disaster. They challenged themselves to write factually, ensuring they didn't allow their own opinion to affect their writing. 

This week in Maths children continued to challenge themselves with percentage and averages. They have been calculating new totals after percentage increases, and learnt about a new type of average - the mode. Ask your child to explain how to calculate the range, mean and mode of a set of data. Can they tell you which is the most useful in different scenarios?

Finally, we also took part in the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch by observing and recording birds seen in our outdoor areas during playtime. The data will be collated by Mrs Sarkis and recorded on a Bird Watch blog!
