Year 3 - David Attenborough Week

Year 3 have had a truly inspiring week celebrating the life and work of Sir David Attenborough as he reached his remarkable 100th birthday.

The children began by watching clips from his documentary Secret Garden, using it as inspiration for their own creative projects. They carefully sketched plants and flowers in pencil before bringing them to life with vibrant watercolours, producing stunning handmade birthday cards to be posted to David Attenborough.

The children then stepped into the role of filmmakers, creating their very own Attenborough-style documentaries about bluebells. With thoughtful narration, carefully filmed clips and impressive voiceovers, the children captured the calm, informative tone that makes his work so iconic.

In English, children explored the key features of biography writing and used these skills to write biographies of David Attenborough, tracing his journey from childhood through to his groundbreaking career and achievements.

Outdoors, learning continued at Forest School, where the children took part in the Wonderful Working Worms CREST Star challenges. They investigated the important role worms play in our ecosystem, making real-life connections to the environmental themes Attenborough has championed throughout his life.

To round off the week, Year 3 joined a live assembly on his birthday, celebrating alongside schools across the country.
