Ancient Benin Kingdom Wow Day!
Back to Latest NewsOn Tuesday 24th February, the Year five children took part in a Wow day for their new topic about The Ancient Benin Kingdom.
Our day started with another trip to the Museum of Mysteries where we explored different artefacts and evidence, asking questions like: Who did this belong to? What was it used for? What is made from? Is it similar to anything from the Maya civilisation? We also had the opportunity to use our senses at the spices station, guessing the 5 mystery ingredients used by the people of this civilisation. We enjoyed looking at the artefacts which included a replica of a mask, replica beads, shells and images of artwork and sculptures.
After this we took part in a team quiz, finding answers to questions about the Benin Kingdom, and collecting jigsaw pieces to build a puzzle.
In the afternoon, there were sessions on African drumming, how to play a traditional Ancient Benin game and food tasting including foods such as okra, plantain and yams.
