Year 6 - The Far East WOW Day

Today, children travelled around Asia as part of a WOW day to introduce our new unit of learning- The Far East. 

Each child had their passport, as well as boarding passes to three countries in Asia- Jordan, China and India. The children travelled from one country to the next, and learnt more about each country's geography, history and traditions. In each country, children were also able to try some of the traditional foods, including pita bread, hummus, mint tea, gyoza, popadoms and mango chutney. They also learnt how to write their names in Arabic, Mandarin and Hindi, as well as speak some of the language. 

Some of the children said: 

'I loved using the chopsticks to eat the gyoza- it was so fun!' 

'My favourite part of the day was seeing the traditional Indian artefacts.'

'I hadn't heard of the country Jordan before, but it is a really fascinating place.'

'I loved the hummus, pita bread and mint tea - I want to have this at home!' 

'China and India both have populations over 1 billion, I can't believe how many people that is!'
