Today, Year 3 brought history to life with a dramatic reenactment of the Great Fire of London. Last year in Year 2, the children learned all about the historic event of 1666 and carefully created their own paper houses to represent the wooden homes of the time. The houses were set up close together, just as they would have been on the narrow London streets. With the help of Mr Sarkis, the children watched as a small spark was lit and quickly grew into a roaring blaze. Their excited faces looked on as the flames spread from house to house, showing just how fast the Great Fire would have swept through the city all those years ago - a wonderful way for the children to deepen their understanding of this significant event in British history.
