Year 3 - Harold Hill Historians

Year 3 have had a wonderful start to the year, and have been very busy becoming Harold Hill Historians! We have been learning about the history of our local area and, in particular, The Manor House and the famous diary writer Samuel Pepys, who once visited there.

As part of our work, we went on a walk to see the ruins of The Manor House. We looked closely at the evidence we could find and thought carefully about what life might have been like in the past. On the walk, children collected tally chart data about the animals spotted and represented this in a bar chart back in class. 

Children have also worked hard to write fact files about the different jobs servants carried out in Manor Houses, and created a diary entry in the style of Samuel Pepys, recounting his visit to Harold Hill. They also had fun creating a Haiku poem, inspired by the Great Fire of London, as observed by Samuel Pepys. 

Seal and Otter Class have shown fantastic curiosity, creativity and careful thinking. They have thoughtfully compared life in the past to life today, and asked intriguing questions about how and why things have changed.
