This term, as part of our 'Here We Are' unit of learning with a focus on Geography, Year 1 have been learning all about the countries of the United Kingdom. This began with a very exciting letter from Paddington Bear, who wrote to us about his travels around the four countries and the different landmarks he visited in each of the capital cities. Year 1 loved looking at the photos of Paddington Bear on his adventures and used these to write a recount about Paddington's travels. This morning, children took part in a WOW Day, with different activities and areas of the classroom transformed to help us deepen our understanding and knowledge of the United Kingdom. Children matched flags to the different countries to colour, used building blocks in the construction area to create different landmarks, and used iPads to research interesting facts on Kiddle. Children also enjoyed tasting popular foods from each country, such as porridge, Yorkshire puddings, Welsh cakes and potato cakes. Ask your child if they can name the four countries of the United Kingdom, and if they can remember each of the capital cities.
