Year 3 - World Book Day

This week we celebrated World Book Day as part of our Festival of Reading. We saw lots of wonderful costumes this week and the children enjoyed sharing their favourite book characters with one another. Well done to all of the adults for the hardwork they put in to helping their children create costumes and props! The prize for best costume in Year 3 went to Henry, who came dressed as 'Wild Robot' - he was very excited to tell everyone about the book his character was from and says it is the 'best book he has ever read'. 

On World Book Day we were lucky to have a visit from Adrian the Storyteller. After an exciting assembly the children had the opportunity to attend a drama workshop with Adrian. Ask your child to show you a tableau of their favourite part of the Anansi stories they heard.

We also enjoyed watching an interview with Nadia Shireen - author of Billy and the Dragon and the Grimwood series - and joining in with her drawalong. In the afternoon we created our own Anansi fable by using elements of the story Billy and the Dragon. Some children created a graphic novel, whilst others made puppets and used them to tell their story. 

After lunch the children had the opportunity to share their reading with Year 5. They shared their favourite book with their partner, reading a bit aloud to them. Then, Year 5 shared their favourite stories with us. It was lovely to see the children talking to one another about the stories they love. 

At the end of the day Otter Class were visited by two teachers from the Academy who shared a story with them. They enjoyed telling the history teacher what they have been learning about the Anglo Saxons in Year 3. 

On Friday Seal Class attended Forest School where they continued being creative with their imaginative play. They also learnt how to play an Anglo-Saxon game - ask your child to teach you the rules at home.
