What an exciting last week of the half term Year 3 have had!

At the start of the week we learnt a recipe for vegetable dumplings - a food eaten in celebration of Lunar New Year. The children learnt about their distinctive crescent shape, which represents the moon, and the ingredients that make up the delicious filling. Then, we made our own. The children enjoyed learning how to use a grater safely, and were able to use the bridge and claw method to safely use a kitchen knife. After they had been cooked the children enjoyed them with chopsticks and a dipping sauce. Delicious! Perhaps you could make them at home over the half term break!

We were also lucky to be invited to a road safety workshop this week, where the children learnt about the importance of following the Green Cross Code. They practised the steps, and were told all about the things that could pose a danger to pedestrians when crossing the road. Thank you to the red man and the green man for taking some time out of their busy day jobs to come and educate us! Ask your child to show you how they: Stop, Look, Listen and Think!

At the end of the week we invited Year 5 to visit us so that we could show off the amazing books the children have made. Over the last few weeks they rewrote the story of Billy and the Dragon, adding their own challenges for the main character to face and creating an alternative ending. It has taken a long time for the children to write, edit, copy and illustrate their stories and they were really proud of the end product. Year 5 were very impressed with the quality of their stories, commenting on some of the writing techniques that had been used such as repetition and personification. They'll be bringing their books home to share with you in a few weeks time.

On Friday we enjoyed hearing another of Nadia Shireen's stories - Billy and the Beast. In this book a beast is following his recipe for Terrible Soup, so we were inspired to create our own recipes. The children worked in groups to think of terrible ingredients - there were lots of eyeballs, smelly socks, toenails and bogeys going into the soups (yuck)! Ask your child what their terrible soup recipe included.

Seal Class enjoyed going to Forest School this week - spending some time with Mrs Burton's Forest Friends. They also put up a hammock and a swing, and took some time to relax under the canopy.

Have a relaxing half term, and we look forward to seeing everyone in a week!
