Year 3 - NSPCC Number Day

We can't believe we are already four weeks into the Spring term! The children have continued to work very hard this week, finishing writing their books in English. They have started to copy their story out in their best handwriting to create their own real-life picture book which they are excited to share with another class in the school! 

We have been learning about magnetism in Science this week - experimenting with bar and horseshoe magnets. The children noticed that the magnets did not attract all materials, and that they behaved strangely with one another. We explained that a magnet is an object with its own magnetic field, and it exerts a force on some objects. Perhaps you can spot some magnets around your home? The children have created their own puzzles and mazes that use a magnet to work and are bringing them home for you to try out! 

In Maths we have continued practising using column addition and subtraction with 2 digit number calculations. We have also been finding the missing number to make 100. We use the jigsaw method - you can find out more about that here. 

The Geography skill we have practised is using an index to find key information in an Atlas. You can practise at home by asking your child questions such as 'What is the capital city of Mexico?' or 'Which river runs through Budapest?'

On Friday it was NSPCC Number Day and all of the children completed a challenge with their partner. Well done to the children who brought in their competition entry for Mrs Porter! We look forward to hearing the results...
