Year 1 Environmental Artists

 Year 1 have had a fantastic start to Autumn 2 and delved excitedly into their new unit of learning to explore England and the capital city of London, plotting these on a map of the United Kingdom. We have looked at famous London landmarks, such as Buckingham Palace, the Elizabeth Tower and Big Ben, and the London Eye, and discussed the significance of each of these sites. Children spoke confidently about these during a recent Chatta and have loved using this learning across different contexts, even building London landmarks and buses in the construction area! 

In Science, we recapped omnivores, herbivores and carnivores to group animals based on their diets and what they eat. Children then hosted their own "restaurants" and served suitable meals for a rabbit, tiger and monkey! Ask your child what they would serve to one of these animals and why.

In Art, we have started to explore our artist study of Andy Goldsworthy, learning about his origins and artwork. Children were fascinated by his use of the environment and couldn't wait to create their own pieces inspired by him, using natural materials found in our garden. We would love to see any photos of environmental art you create at home!
