Year 6 - Dia de Los Muertos
Back to Latest News
We have had a brilliant first week back learning all about the Mexican festival – Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) which takes place annually 1-2 November. It is a national holiday which combines the Christian festival All Saints’ Day with Ancient Incan traditions, remembering and celebrating lost loved ones.
The children learnt lots of new Spanish vocabulary and used it to translate a song about the festivities from Spanish into English. After learning about the traditions and their origins, the children wrote informative texts explaining them to others.
In Food Technology, we learnt how to make traditional Pan de Muertos – a sweet bread flavoured with sugar, cinnamon and orange.
At home, ask your child to tell you what they know about Alebrijes and La Catrina!
