Year 3 - 'The Great Fire of London' FIRE!!
Back to Latest News
Leading up to our topic of Harold Hill Historians, we looked at the Manor and the famous people who came to it.
Samuel Pepys, during the Great Fire of London, is known to have come to the Manor to escape the fire and watched it engulf London.
In the DT room, we made a Tudor style house, to represent those during the the 1666 fire and meticulously painted it and stuck some black stips to represent the beams of the Tudor houses.
This afternoon, we were able to lay our City of London on the playground and safely set fire to it. The children watched from a distance how very quickly the flames spread.
We used little egg cups to put the fire out and swept it ourselves using paintbrushes. Ask your children why?
Ask them why they spread? What has changed with the way houses are made now compared to 1666.
Afterwards, we came back to the class and discussed fire safety and what to do in an emergency. We watched a very informative video from a London Fire Brigade, who told us to come up with an emergency plan and what to do in case we see a fire.
