Year 6 - Inheritance
Back to Latest News
This week Year 6 have learnt about someone impressive as part of Science Week. Dr Tu Youyou was the first Chinese winner of a Nobel Prize in Medicine, which she received for developing a treatment for malaria. We discussed how she used what she knew about TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) to find a natural ingredient to use in her treatment.
In Science we continued to learn about inheritance, creating our own family trees using Mr Men and Little Miss. The children enjoyed looking at the characteristics of each character, and combining them to create their own offspring.
In Literacy the children developed their essay writing skills, in preparation for secondary school. They wrote comparative essays discussing the similarities and differences between the book we are currently reading and one we have read previously. Ask them to give you an example.
It was also Holi this week, and the children decorated the brickwork on the floor in front of our school with powder paint and chalk. It looked wonderful in the afternoon sunshine!
