Year 3 - Information texts

In Literacy, Year 3 have been learning about information/explanation texts. Following on from our previous learning on poetry we have been identifying and discussing the features of a non-fiction text and comparing these to fiction texts. This week we have been developing our skills in reading and summarising. This has involved looking for key information in a text to answer a question or selecting what we think is the more important information from a text. At the end of this week we were reading about dams that are used to stop the flow of a river (as our Theme topic is The River Nile) so we have been learning about rivers too). We highlighted the key information as we read the text. We used the information we found to create an information page as a group. We included features of a non-fiction text such as a title, subheadings, factual language and a diagram.
